As members of the Alex Dyson Independent campaign, we hold ourselves to the highest standards. By signing up as a volunteer you agree to abide by the campaign values and this code of conduct.
Our values are authenticity, positivity, respect, trust, integrity & fun :)
As volunteers we agree to:
- Respect the rights and opinions of others.
- Work as a team.
- Take care of ourselves and others.
- Do everything we can to make the campaign positive and fun.
- Use electronic communication with care.
- Expect high standards of ourselves and others.
- Focus on the outcomes and the campaign goal to WIN!
We will hold ourselves to the highest standards
We will display integrity at all times and will respect the rights and opinions of others. We will focus on policies not personalities, and positives not negatives. We will do everything we can to make the campaign a positive and fun experience for all. Above all, we will always be polite.
We will focus on outcomes
While all opinions are valid, in order to achieve our goals we understand that decisions will be made based on achieving the best end result. We won’t make things personal, or take things personally. We trust in the leadership team to set the best course possible, and once the campaign leaders make a decision we will support those decisions.
We will respect and learn from each other
All our systems must be optimised to help volunteers on the front line make the biggest possible impact. Volunteers who are highly productive can sometimes be too enthusiastic. If over-enthusiasm and directness turns into real disruption, affecting the campaign’s capacity to achieve our goals, we reserve our right to request a change in the behaviour of, or even dismiss, disruptive volunteers from the campaign.
We will not get into email trouble
If there is disagreement in an email or other electronic thread, we will quickly move to a real-time conversation on the phone or in person. It’s easy for tone or intent to be misconstrued online. We won’t write anything that would embarrass us if it were made public.
We will work as a team
Our team needs everyone at every level to bring suggestions to the table for making our work better. We will only win if everyone contributes the best ideas, offers constructive criticism when appropriate, engages in problem solving, and helps anticipate future problems. That said, it’s up to the campaign leaders to make decisions, and for the rest of the team to align with those decisions. Fast and effective decision-making can’t happen by consensus, but it should be informed by all the smart people we have working on the campaign.
We will be grateful for the opportunity
This is an amazing team and a huge opportunity to get an independent MP in Wannon who will truly represent our community voice. We will strive to hold each other and ourselves accountable for doing everything possible to win the election. If we fall short then we will do it with a spirit of forgiveness and generosity. We will be honoured to be involved and do our work with a sense of gratitude and fun.
We will take care of ourselves and others
We will be careful celebrating and not drink and drive. We won’t drink at all if we are responsible for driving Alex. We will never work alone when helping at public events, hubs, or doorknocking, and will let our area volunteer coordinator know if we need a break.
Reporting concerns
If any volunteers have any concerns about the behaviour of others involved in the campaign, or other issues of a similar nature, the process for resolving issues is as follows:
- In the first instance, discuss the issue with your area volunteer coordinator.
- If you are unable to resolve the issue with your area volunteer coordinator, you cannot contact them, the concern involves your area volunteer coordinator, or you do not know who your area volunteer coordinator is, then contact Stef Roberts-Thomson, Lead Organiser, at [email protected] or on 0480 567 612.
- If you are still unable to resolve the issue, contact Shelly Murrell, Campaign Coordinator, at [email protected] or on 0428 126 706.
Please note that while the campaign leaders will listen to and respect the views of all volunteers, they reserve the right to make the final decision on all matters.
