Helen grew up on a dairy farm near Colac, trained as a nurse and midwife and moved to north east Victoria. After a career in healthcare, she still wanted to make a difference in her community. She was first elected in May 2019, becoming the first Independent federal parliamentarian to succeed another in the same electorate in Australia.

Helen is returning to her home town of Colac for this special event in her high school hall to share how community-driven representation gets results.
